Feeding Pets
Release date: 7/9/2004
"Fee-ee-ding Vendetta's pets, cause Vendetta is the best! Fee-ee-ding Vendetta's pets, cause Vendetta's nice!"
Charlotte house-sits for Vendetta while she's away.

Plot Summary

Vendetta finds out Charlotte is pet-sitting a canary named Frederick while his owner (her neighbor) is vacationing in Guam. Charlotte suggests that she could look after Vendetta's "pets" (re: fiends) if the green girl were to go on vacation at some point. At first, Vendetta objects to the idea, but quickly realizes this would be the perfect opportunity to have Charlotte destroyed. Vendetta comes up with a lie that she's going to Florida for the weekend and promptly offers Charlotte the keys to her house so she can fiend-sit.

That weekend, while Vendetta is supposedly "away" (she's hiding out in her house spying), Charlotte arrives with Frederick the canary tagging along. Using the written instructions provided by Vendetta, the blue girl successfully feeds all of the fiends, including but not limited to a giant fly trap (which Charlotte accidentally kills by feeding it a cupcake), electric eels, one-eyed bats, and a grizzly bear. This is all shown via a montage, which Charlotte sings over. Vendetta watches her the whole time without being noticed (even when it's REALLY obvious she's there)

The final task on the list is to feed the Giant Kitty, which Charlotte is of course very excited to do. The instructions tell her to put a bowl of cat food on her head, not only claiming it's a hat, but also that it's the latest fashion from France. Charlotte does so and calls out to the cat. The trick ends up working perfectly - the Giant Kitty comes over and eats Charlotte and Frederick, chomping them right off the ground. Vendetta immediately jumps out of the bushes and celebrates - Charlotte is finally gone! Or so she thinks...

Fiendish Findings

  • This episode ends on a cliffhanger. It is continued in episode 11, "No More Charlotte" (which doubles as the Season 2 opener)
  • Similarly to the previous two episodes, this episode received a new title when the website was updated. It was originally called "Pet Sitting" but was later changed to "Feeding Pets"
  • Despite barely having a role in this two-parter, Frederick makes several reappearances throughout both the web and TV series (albeit in different forms). Gigantic versions of him appear in both the TV episode "Shorts: Set 2" and the April Fools webisode "Making Friends" (the latter being more fiend-like as he has sharp teeth and tentacles) He also appears on the boat in the web series finale.
  • It should be noted that Frederick has a small glowing aura around him similar to that of Buttons 2 (I forgot to mention that back in episode 4)
  • Vendetta's affinity for Florida is referenced in the DVD-exclusive alternate ending to the series, which involves her giving up on trying to kill Charlotte and moving down to the Sunshine State instead.
  • The special DVD version of this episode comes with commentary provided by Big Bunny, the titular character of another Winfrey cartoon.
  • This episode's hidden message read "The TENTH episode of Making Fiends by Amy Winfrey. Charlotte gets to feed Vendetta's pets. Even the Giant Kitty!"
Final Thoughts

If you just stopped watching the show after this episode, Charlotte would be presumed dead. It could've just ended here (but it didn't, and I'm glad about that) This is another one where Vendetta "wins" which is always refreshing to see (though it doesn't last). I know I say this about every episode (I'm boring) but I love it. A tiny detail I like is when you can see Charlotte's leg stick out after the Giant Kitty scoops her into his mouth. Also Frederick is another example of very good character design. He is lovely.

I have no idea how long that stupid "Feeding Vendetta's Pets" song has been stuck in my head for. It's definitely been several years at the very least. It's definitely one of the most vicious earworms this show has ever produced, which is saying a LOT. Another thing I really liked was Vendetta hiding in the bushes and almost getting caught by accident (but she's thankfully able to trick Charlotte by saying "nothing" when she asks what she heard) They can be stupid together.

Apologies for this taking a little while. I've been busy with school as well as life in general, but I want to keep updating this somewhat consistently. I'm probably going to take a break from episode reviews for a while and focus on getting the character pages done (and maybe some other stuff) Stay tuned for more.
