EPISODE REVIEW
Kitty Kitty Kitty
Release date: 12/13/2003
"He is not a kitty! He is a fiend!" "A fiend? Unholy"
Charlotte manages to tame and befriend the Giant Kitty.

Plot Summary

Marion and Malachi spot Charlotte lugging a ginormous hairbrush across the playground before class, confusing them both. Not long after, while class is in session, the school building begins to shake vigorously as if there were an earthquake. Vendetta goes outside to investigate and discovers that the vibrations are coming from the Giant Kitty - he's purring because Charlotte is brushing him!

Vendetta is furious at the sight of Giant Kitty in a good mood. She gets even madder when Charlotte responds to her anger by bringing down the brush and messing up Vendetta's hair against her will. Now donning a horrifically ugly hairstyle, Vendetta gets an idea for how to ruin Charlotte's fun and walks back to her house. While she's gone, we see a cute montage of Charlotte playing with Kitty. She of course sings a song all about him during this (in fact, the episode is named after it) The montage ends with a scene of her standing on a ladder, dressing Kitty up with bows as well as a collar.

Just then, Vendetta returns bearing a jar containing giant flea fiends who not only bite, but also carry knives. She releases them in hopes of making Kitty angry again. Unfortunately for her, the fleas die as soon as they jump onto Kitty's fur thanks to the extra-extra-extra large flea collar Charlotte put on him. Upon looking closer at Kitty, Charlotte notices that he's looking a bit dirty and needs a bath. The word "bath" horrifies Kitty so much that he immediately turns angry again, throwing off his accessories, knocking over Charlotte's ladder and running off to attack the other students. Pleased, Vendetta says "That's better!" and does her evil laugh.

Fiendish Findings

  • Self-explanatory but this is the only time in the entire series where we see the Giant Kitty being happy. Every other time he shows up, he's either angry or scared. Maybe he just needs some more love and affection and then he'll be fine...probably.
  • The special DVD version of this episode is one of the best. All of the voices are replaced by different text-to-speech voices. Malachi's is vocoded to "In The Hall of the Mountain King" for some reason. The credits are even altered to reflect this (it lists Vendetta's voice actor as "Vendettatron 2000")
  • There's a small reference to a previous episode during the classroom scene. In that scene, Mr. Milk is drawing a diagram of a cow's digestive system. Back in episode 4, he tried to suggest teaching about that exact topic only to be shut down by Vendetta.
  • This episode's hidden message read: "The SIXTH episode of Making Fiends. Kitty kitty kitty you are pretty pretty pretty big. Making Fiends is a cartoon series by Amy Winfrey, the creator of Muffinfilms.com and Big Bunny. It is about two little girls: Charlotte and Vendetta."
Final Thoughts

This is one of the only episodes where Vendetta "wins" (even if it's not how she meant to). That automatically gives it points.

This is another one of my favorites. It's just such a cute episode even if not that much happens in comparison to others. I'm a huge cat person so I'm probably biased but I don't care. I sing the kitty song to my cats all the time and have for years. I will always love you Giant Kitty. You deserve better than this place.

Vendetta's not even actually trying to kill Charlotte here, at least not directly. She just wants to piss her off here which is great. Knowing Charlotte, however, she probably got over it pretty quickly.

Also the bonus DVD version of this episode is absolute gold. Please watch it when you can. Now onto episode 7 - another one that was brought to TV!
